Luke is a small town boy from humble beginnings thrust into an extraordinary life. He has grown over time from a naive, fresh-faced farm kid with dreams of adventure and heroism into a strong, confident hero, albeit one who often finds himself with great responsibilities and roles in life. He's a warrior, negotiator, leader and teacher, as well as a devoted brother, husband and father.
Luke is naturally curious, with a desire to explore and to find new things. He loves to tinker and build, having inherited some of his father's affinity for machines, and he's often happiest when he's flying a spacecraft. He's naturally resourceful, having grown up in a rugged environment where he and his family had to struggle to survive. He's quick-thinking and able to get himself out of a lot of tight situations, such as his encounter with the Wampa on Hoth. He used his lightsaber to free himself and injure the creature in order to escape.
He was a young man who developed close friends, yet felt very alone as he tried to rebuild the Jedi Order entirely on his own. And as the galaxy was pushed from one conflict to another, the things Luke went through weighed on him heavily. He’s more knowledgeable and aware of the sometimes dark reality of his world, and has become a confident, capable, powerful Jedi Master, and yet in some ways, he has changed very little.
He’s developed into a decent mentor and teacher, yet he often feels as though he’s in a bit of flux. He’s grown in his knowledge of the Force over the years, yet still sometimes feels inadequate due to having so little formal training in it. He’s restored the core of the old Order, but wasn’t afraid to change some things that he felt the old Masters had been wrong about, like the ban on marriage and attachments.
Luke's a bit weary and perhaps a little jaded at this point, due to the strain of the war he's fought in for so long, but he still retains his ever-present optimism and his desire to help others, along with his belief in the inherent good in all beings. He’s become a powerful Jedi master, but he’s still the same humble, kindhearted, heroic man he was in the very beginning.
Although he is a warrior, Luke is also a peaceful man at heart, and generally avoids fighting and conflict if at all possible. He’ll try non-violent means to resolve an issue before resorting to a fight. And yet, he is not afraid to defend his friends and family and those who can’t defend themselves. He’s firm in his belief in the Light Side of the Force, and yet, he’s more aware now that things aren’t always black and white, either.
He is a man who tries his best to control his emotions instead of letting them control him. He will get angry if someone he cares about is attacked, but does not want to give into the anger that he knows destroyed his father before him. One good example is his valiant attempt to control his anger at Vader, only to lash out when his sister was threatened. Still, though, Luke did not fully give in and refused to kill his father when he had the chance.
Luke is always very forgiving, with his father being the best evidence of this. Few others would have seen anything worth saving in Vader, but Luke was willing to look past the darkness and evil that had consumed his father and see Anakin Skywalker still trapped within. He was also willing to forgive and slowly befriend Mara, despite her initial hostility and determination to kill him.
Luke is incredibly stubborn and persistent at times, such as his endless pleading with Mara to get her to train as a Jedi. He will not give up once his mind is set on something, and he will keep at it until he gets what he wants. He is prone to taking risks and pushing limits when he feels it’s necessary. However, he is not as reckless as his father once was. He has enough of his mother’s clear-headedness in him to keep him under control fairly well.
Luke’s first loyalty besides his family is the Jedi Order, and that has left him pulled in different directions in recent times. The newer leaders of the New Republic and its successor governments weren’t entirely supportive of the Jedi in general and wanted them to be loyal first to the government, something Luke refused to consider. This left him torn between the two factions quite a bit. Luke has never been big on politics anyway, and was never really known for getting along strongly with those in charge.
Luke has a big tendency to guilt trip when he makes a mistake, even if it isn’t entirely his fault. His actions at Byss with the reborn Palpatine have left him haunted and saddened for years, despite others having forgiven him long ago. He is also still somewhat haunted by the death of his nephew, Anakin, despite knowing that he was too valuable to lead the strike team himself.
Sometimes, Luke can be a bit naïve, like when he hoped to learn more about the Dark Side from within and nearly went completely over before Leia was able to reach him and pull him back. It also led to him once being taken in by someone who claimed to have information on his mother, even though it was really a trick.
Luke is a man who was very inexperienced with women in the beginning, and he has had his heart broken quite a few times since then. One girlfriend turned out to be an Imperial spy, and another seemed to be ‘the one’ only to turn to the Dark Side and betray Luke in the end. He is a romantic at heart, daring to believe that marriage and being a Jedi needn’t be in conflict, unlike the masters of old. However, he was often left to wonder if he would ever find a true soul mate.
Despite both sides being fiercely independent and stubborn, Luke and Mara discovered that they were meant for each other. Luke is very devoted to Mara, yet also willing to respect her independence and strong will. They’ve been through a lot, between Mara’s illness and the constant problems of the war, yet have finally been able to hope that maybe they’ll get time to just be a family as the war finally comes to an end.
Luke is very loyal to his friends and willing to do just about anything to help them, as evidenced by what he and Leia went through trying to save Han. Unfortunately, this can lead him to take undue risks and get a bit reckless if he isn’t careful. Yoda tried to tell him that he would only put his friends in more danger by going to Bespin, but he was determined to go anyway. He’s generally friendly and easygoing, although he may get a little guarded around someone who might not be as open to people with special abilities.
He has a twin bond with Leia, his sister, and is able to share thoughts and feelings and sometimes words with her through the Force. He is very close to her and to Han and the kids. Han is like a big brother to Luke, and the farmboy was able to see who Han really was inside even while the smuggler was still trying to find a way to leave the rebels behind. Luke was instrumental in helping the kids grow up to become strong Jedi themselves, although it hasn’t always been easy. He had to struggle to keep the Solo twins, especially Jaina, from falling to the Dark Side after her brother’s death.
Luke’s a good father with his own son, though he had to fight to balance guiding the Jedi through the war and keeping his own family safe. He regrets the time he had to spend away from Ben while the boy was in hiding to protect him during the war. Now, Luke is trying to help him open himself more to the Force, as Ben became frightened of it during the war.
Contracts: I’m not sure if I totally believe the captains or not, but I feel signing on to travel aboard the ship is probably the best option at this point. I have a comm device, but can’t get it working, so I can’t call anyone else to come and pick me up. I don’t have a ship with me that I can travel back home in on my own. I want to get back to my duties to the Galaxy and to helping rebuild in the aftermath of the war, but this could be my only option for right now. I’m not even sure, looking at the stars, if I’m even in the Galaxy anymore. It’s all strange to me. I know enough not to trust blindly, but for right now, I don’t sense any ill intent in the Force.
There is, however, something else I sense on the ship that also makes me want to stay. I can sense two Force presences that shouldn’t be here and has me very intrigued. One is my father. Not the twisted, corrupted presence that was Darth Vader, but the real Anakin, the father I saw so briefly on the Death Star. I’ve got to find out where it’s coming from and how he’s here. If the Force has somehow brought us together here, I want to make the most of it. Does he know me? What will he be like? I have to find out.
And I can sense Obi-Wan. I still look up to him so much…I’ve always regretted that I never got to spend much time with him when he was alive. I can’t help wondering if there’s more he can teach me, even with what I’ve learned already. I have to see both of them and find out what’s going on.
Fortunately, I’m not completely alone. Jaina’s here. And Han, I think. I’m not sure what’s ahead for me, but I have a feeling it’s going to be quite remarkable. I’ll do what I can to help us all get home, and to help the others here whenever there are chances to do so.
Abilities/Skills: Luke is a skilled pilot who can fly just about anything, and inherited his dad’s innate military-style flying ability. He’s also got some of his father’s mechanical skill. By this time in his canon, he’s developed into a good leader and mentor, despite not really being a natural at it. He’s a naturally good swordsman, although there’s likely some Force skill there as well, as he was able to pick up his father’s form of saber fighting after only one exposure to it and has mastered several other forms over his life. He’s skilled to a degree in hand to hand combat and self-defense, whether using the Force to enhance it or not. He's also a skilled shot with a rifle-type weapon, spending a lot of time when he was young shooting pesky womp rats.
He has an ability to see shatterpoints, a Force-guided sense of where something can break or change the course of events. He can boost his natural speed, strength and stamina with the Force, or give a boost to another Force user, most frequently Mara or Leia. He can also enter a battle meld to fight in perfect mental tandem with them. He can use the classic Jedi Mind Trick to influence others, but does so only rarely, due to not being fond of the method. He can also use the Force to disguise himself.
Luke is telepathic to other Force users, and can feel their thoughts and emotions. However, actively probing another person’s mind is something that’s done only with permission, unless there’s good reason. This is heightened somewhat with those closest to him, like Leia, Mara and the Solo children and he can sense things like their pain even if he isn’t consciously connecting to them. He is closest to Mara due to their Force bond, a connection of their essences within the Force. He sometimes tends to detect or finish Mara’s thoughts at times without realizing it, sometimes earning him a playfully snarky response like “get out of my head, Skywalker”.
If injured, he can place himself in a Jedi healing trance and heal himself to a point, even with injuries that others might not survive. Mara will typically wake him from one with “I love you, Luke”, although another code can be arranged for someone else who might need to wake him.
He can shield his Force presence and make himself undetectable to others, and like most Jedi, he can levitate and move objects telekinetically. By now, this even extends to relatively large ones like a vehicle, although the more he exerts himself while using the Force, the more it takes out of him.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: Likes to help people, very friendly usually. Smart, a good leader by now and experienced with some areas of teaching. Resourceful and quick thinking, able to handle tight situations well. Doesn’t give up easily. He sees the good in everyone and doesn't give up on them easily. Has experience with military skills and tactics, and a few other survival skills learned from his youth.
Weaknesses: Stubborn, a little too naïve/trusting sometimes. His father’s temper can manifest if you hurt someone he cares about. Sometimes is hard on himself about his struggles with the Dark Side, regretting mistakes and guilt tripping a little too hard when he makes said mistakes. Extremely stubborn.
Items: Luke usually carries very little on him, but he’ll have his lightsaber and probably a comm device that likely won’t do him much good on the ship.
SAMPLESNetwork Sample: I am not completely sure if I believe the captains or not yet, but I don’t sense anything dark from them right now either. I do want to do my best to help others while I’m here, if I find ways I can. It’s natural; I’ve always liked helping others. I do think I was brought here for a reason, and I’ll find out what it is and make the most of it. My name is Luke Skywalker, and it’s nice to meet you all.
(private section)
To my family that I’ve found here, I’m glad that I’m not alone here, and I’m going to make the most of my time with those of you I wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance to get to know.
Jaina, I do wish that we weren’t separated from the rest, but hopefully we’ll get back to them. I know we both miss the rest of the family, but I know we can work together and get back home to them somehow.
Father and Mother, I don’t know how the Force brought us together, but I’m happy to be able to get to know you.
Obi-Wan, I want to make the most of our being together again here. I still look up to you so much, and have always wished I could have spent more time with you. I look forward to talking with you more and maybe even learning a few more things.
Prose/Action Sample: Minimum of 250 words and gives us a sense of how they think and react.

He moved around slowly, taking in his surroundings cautiously. He had understood what he'd been told about this being a prison and his physical body being in a sort of stasis. However, he couldn't help wondering who the creators of the artificial intelligence that ran this place were. He felt weak and uneasy with not being able to feel the Force. He wasn't unable to help himself, but always felt at a disadvantage when cut off. He looked for Ysalamir cages, but didn't see any visible ones.
His thoughts were racing, processing what had been explained to him about this place, worrying for his wife and child, and for the fate of the galaxy and the Jedi Order if he couldn't be there to lead it. He felt angry, but kept his calm, controlling his emotions and not letting them lead him to do anything rash.
With the war going on, the Yuzhaan Vong were always top suspects for attacking him, but they weren't overly fond of most technology, aside from their own living ships and the weapons they used. He supposed it could be a Dark Side user, Sith or otherwise, but at the moment, it was hard to tell anything. Luke decided he had to stay alert and try to find whatever ways he could of gathering more information.
He knew there were those who would see him as a criminal. Despite the peace with the Imperial Remnant, there were still those affiliated with it that hated him, and there were always the users of the Dark Side. Luke had never been thrilled with some of the things he'd had to do and the lives he'd had to take, but as a fledgling Jedi, he'd rationalized it as being for the greater good, the freedom of so many. Of course, his actions during the time of the reborn Palpatine were less excusable, but he didn't deny he'd been a fool to think as he had back then. It was easier to think of the current war as more black and white, even if it might not truly be so, because of the atrocities committed by the invaders. Still, Luke believed it would be necessary to convince his captors that he wasn't truly a criminal.
Luke studied the various people and other beings he saw here as he explored his surroundings. He would have to figure out who was friendly and who could be trusted, and try to work together with them if he was to make it back home. In one of the common rooms, he happened upon two faces that made his spirits sink, but also brought joy to his being.
Han and Leia. Luke made his way to them quickly, their presence affirming even more his desire to get back home. Of course, the most important reasons were Mara and Ben, but Han and Leia were his closest family outside of them. He thought of the kids, not knowing their parents had been replaced with imposters, and just hoped everyone would be all right until they could get back to them.
